Broken Music, Various Artists, 2019

An exacting facsimile of a long sought after rarity, and the most comprehensive and indispensable printed resource on the subject of artists’ records. Produced with managing editor James Hoff on behalf of Primary Information in New York. Originally edited by Ursula Block and Michael Glasmeier and first published in 1989, Broken Music focuses on recordings, record-objects, artwork for records, and record installations made by artists between WWII and 1989.

Works included the publication are based on four criteria: Record covers created as original work by visual artists. Record or sound-producing objects (multiples/editions/sculptures). Books and publications that contain a record or recorded-media object. Records or recorded media that have sound by visual artists. A flexi disc of a performance of Milan Knizak’s Broken Music is also included, in addition to a 200-page bibliography of artists’ records.
